I remember Kim Wilson at SPAH 1998 talking on a break between songs during his awesome performance.  He said, in effect, "If I used a tight cup on every song, it would get old fast."

I agree with Kim.  Show me a player who uses the same sound all the time, and I'll show you a boring player.
