For first position blues with bending, recorded examples go right back to the beginning - Herbert Leonard on Clara Smith's sides in 1924 and 1925. Hey ...  I'm not really trying to be a know-it-all, and I love Gwen Foster's stuff about as much as is legal in this state, but history is history.   ;< )

   but I've not really heard bluesy, wailing, bent notes in first position or second position from the 1920s besides Foster.
