I've just been trying my rudimentary "through Amp" technique through my
guitar rig. The amp was a medium-sized (stereo) Marshall AVT275, set to
"acoustic", the mike a new Green Bullet and the harp a Special 20 in A. I
also tried bits through the looper pedal so I could hear them when I wasn't
playing.
Boss OC-3 Octaver - interesting, but I need to tweak the controls to keep it
much more subtle than the settings I use on guitar. I know Jason Ricci
prefers the compressor circuit on the OC-2, but the polyphonic mode on the
OC-3 tracks well.
"Bad Monkey" overdrive - just a touch added a nice bit of fizz to the edge
of the tone, much like overdriving a mike.
Boss CE-20 chorus - many effects possible, but just a little bit of one of
the default settings made it sound like ensemble playing or multitracking.
Digitech EX-7 set to "Space station" mode. Played very smooth and softly,
the harp actually worked really well, allowing me "infinite sustain"
compared to a guitar. But it's a synth-sounding effect, definitely not one
for the traditionalists.
Boss RE-20 "Space Echo". This a very close emulation of a retro tape echo
box and sounded amazing; a rich, complex sound that to my inexpert ear
suited the harp beautifully. Even the reverb, which is usually the
poorest-reviewed part, sounded good. I strongly recommend amped players
give it a shot, it struck me as a great sound. Between the tap tempo and
the "multitap" modes, you can get something approaching what a delay box
does too.
