The custom mics I build use the indented type notch for each level from 1 -  
10, you don't want to be open at full volume unless you really have complete  
control over the mic, then there are the monitors where a hot signal will  
squeal. Being able to lock it at 9 is where you should probably be for backup.  
And there only was one Little Walter and always will be, no matter how they lay 
 it down, IMO.
