No, but once I had a car I'd definitely make sure I knew how to change a tire and check the oil, regardless of what I was driving.
Perhaps a novice shouldn't have to learn how to set gaps and perform other minor maintenance on the very first day, but given that gapping is a simple procedure that can have a big impact on the player's experience, it's something that shouldn't be held back for long.
