Iceman -
You've taken the trouble to discover the apparent identity of the groovy gypsy, and I think you know he isn't of the American Idol mindset.
Knowing his real name does not invalidate the question he asks. Despite the apparent naivete of the character under which he made the post, gg asks a valid question. The query is one that:
-- you can't quite swallow (is this wide-eyed character for real?)
-- but you can't spit out, either (is it *really* true that fame is a hopelessly distant pipedream no matter how talented, energetic, or smart your are, absent luck and qualities unrelated to musical talent?).
That's true zen. The impossible-to-answer question that you can't ignore, that generates awareness and growth.
Clearly, it has hit a nerve - look at the traffic it's generated on the list and the high quality of on-topic responses (whiskey discussions aside). It's interesting that the biggest pro to respond thus far, Rob Paparozzi, has given the best answer.
