[Harp-L] The Crunch Is On!

SJ, Dave, and All!

A couple of week's back I passed a cute little ditty called "How To
Become A Blues Musician!" I also promised to review "The Cruncher" in a
semi-technical and thorough manner in that same post. I received a few
comments about this cute little check list of becoming a bluesman and a few
comments on truly analyzing all aspects of "The Cruncher". A responsibility
that I was actually looking forward to because I am a gear freak! I related
particularly to a guy named, Dave Brown, because after just a bit of
communicating I found him interesting, intelligent, pleasant, and cool, and
a confirmed gear freak as well. He like others wanted me to lay it all out!

My intention was to give a five venue overview of settings, size of
the venues, response, and finally, my personal viewpoint. Too much! Those
truly interested might wade through this long winded foray through my
encounters, etc., but in the end I thought how boring. So, I'm going to
capsule my settings, comments, experiences, ideas, and findings to a few
short lines. Impossible! So, here's what I'm going to do. I will finish this
portion of this thought and then send part two which is an email that I sent
to Dave Brown, a few further comments, and then you are all on your own.

The Cruncher was the long awaited brain child of Sonny Jr. I have been
playing the SJ410 for three years experimenting the entire time. I've said
this a thousand times. "The SJ410 is by far the most versatile harp amp ever
built!" But, if you don't know how to utilize it, understand the tube game,
or know who you are as a musician or harp player the value of this amp will
escape you! The Cruncher is the answer to my original question to SJ on the
phone years ago, "Will it overdrive?", which touched off the heated debate
that any harp player desiring overdrive should be able to get it out of his
own hands, technique, and use of almost any amp. Well, the question was
asked by many before me and after me. And, so it sparked the quest to build
a smaller sized, weight, and efficient amp as the SJ410 that would really
overdrive. The questions to past customers, the research and development,
everything necessary to get it off the ground got all stirred-up and presto
"The Cruncher"! Powerful, easy to operate, and it growls! But once again, if
you don't know who you are musically, what you really need, or much about
amps, this amp won't make you play better! But, if you can play, man will
you be amazed by this amp! The nuts and bolts will come in Part II. A harp
amp made for harp players by a real harp player! What could be better? I
guess getting one for free is not a normal option.
