[Harp-L] Big River musical (scored by Roger Miller)

I was privilaged to play the harmonica parts in this musical 10- 15 years ago I
actually can't remember the year. I was presented with music written for the
harmonica which was of no use to me as I don't know squat about music as I play
by ear. I was in a panic kinda until a Jazz guitarist gave me some Tommy Reily
symphonic tapes (this was pre cd) and said he didn't read either and had to sit
down with the pianist to learn. I find this almost unbelievable as Tommy Reily
is stunningly talented. I got a tape of the original production and committed
it to memory, it really isn't that bad as that may seem. The production was a
first rate affair with all music grads. (the guitarist was Juilliard and armed
services orchestra). What was I doing there? Having the time of my life! What a
GAS! I would encourage anyone that has a chance to be part of this wonderful
musical to go for it. Roger Miller (do-wack-a-do,king of the road etc.) was
genuis in his own right. Good Luck
                           Jim French
