If by left side tongue block you mean open on the left so you have the 
ability to play intervals and jumps rapidly by corner switching yes it 
is rare but then so is tongue blocking.  Really doesn't it all depend on 
what it is you're trying to express?  If you need the flat 5 in the 
second octave then overblows start to look attractive.  Rapid long jums 
then a left block.  Technique is a means to an end not an end all be
