Joe, you may have a simple ground issue, but there are a lot of  potential 
causes for the noise you are experiencing.  Write me off list  with the details 
about the shell, element, wire, etc... and I'll help you  sort it out.  Clear 
pic's will be very helpful if you can send  them to me.  I can also send you a 
copy of my free Harp Mic Buyers  Guide, many here are finding it to be a 
helpful resource.
