[Harp-L] Sibelius music notation

OK, I'm no expert!
I bought "Sibelius"about 10 years ago. I bought it because I'm dyslexic...
(BUT AM NOT STUPID!) I am RUBBISH at "sight reading" music scores.. If as a
musician, one is invited to play as a session musician, you need to "read the
dots"
OK I can read music and can "work it out" EVENTUALLY! But mostly when I
play I have my eyes tight shut! Also I need reading glasses, and I hate to play
harmonica while wearing spectacles.
So, I like to learn the music and play it out of my head.. If I'm doing a
session I ask for the music BEFORE the session, let "Sibelius" play it back to
me... Then I know EXACTLY what I'm supposed to play at the session. OK often
you simply don't get the music ahead of time. THAT is the worst thing, if as a
musician, one is dyslexic! But quite often, one can then simply play what
one might WANT to play.... and improvise!
I have tried quite a few notation programs. BUT...."Sibelius" is
...Simply... excellent. It is by FAR the best one I've found so far!
YES it can "listen" to music being played and automatically "score" it.

Sadly, the score produced is not often ideal!
Simply because it writes what it hears. It's a computer program, and has to
be used WITH COMMON SENSE!
OK, "Sibelius" IS "a bit intuitive, but it still has to be learnt. One of
it's nicest features, is if someone says "DON'T PLAY IT IN "C" DO IF IN "F#"...
Sibelius can transpose the music instantly, and if you need to give the
sax, 5 violins, trombones etc etc etc... a revised score, It just takes as long
as it takes for your printer to print out the revised music. IT IS WONDERFUL!
Hope that helps.
YES there are MANY other music notation programs available, it's is just
that in my opinion "Sibelius" is the best music notation program that I have
come across.
It is WELL worth its cost!
I am in NO WAY anything to do with "Sibelius"... Just a satisfied customer.
