Re: [Harp-L] Re: Fender Blues Jr Amps

The Mullard NOS 12at7 works great in V1. It retains some of the punch of a 5751 or 12ax7 when compared to how a 12ay7 can really mellow out your tone. In my research and experience, it is the only 12at7 that I would try somewhere other than a reverb or phase inverter slot.

I am using that tube in V1 on the "Refugee" and "Whippin Post" clips here: http://www.youtube.com/user/mikefugazzi

The amp I am using, an Allen Old Flame, has a master volume. It was just over half way up here. When cranked, there is a lot more punch.

The 12AU7 tube is not interchangable with the 12AX7, even though they

the same pin out. The AU7 draws significantly more power and may stress
your power supply. I stay away from the AU7 when replacing AX7 tubes in
guitar amp to make it more harp friendly. Instead, I use the 5751 (my
favorite preamp tube for harp) or the 12AY7. Never use the 12AT7; it is a
horrible tube for tone. It is a different animal designed for use as a
phase inverter.
