[Harp-L] Fender Blues Jr. Amps

Hi Patrick,

I bought a green board Blues Jr. when I moved to Maryland in 2000 and over a few years, I put a Weber in it and had Bill Machrone do mods on it.

I sent him the chassis and he did mods to improve some of the components and it is a great sounding amp. He has instructions and will help someone who wants to do it themselves.
Ted Weber has helped me select speakers for several amps and he has talked to plenty of harp players.
I gigged with for years and for the moderate volume band I played in (no drums and guitars and harp mic'd into PA) and the Blues Jr. was great. Not too dirty, not too clean.
Of course, with the money I put in it, I could have bought...
And I did!
I will keep the Blues Jr because I like it and I learned alot getting it and upgrading it.
I would not buy one new for harp now, I think there are choices I like more in the same range, but the Blues Jr. is not a bad amp.

My preference would be to get a Silvertone, Valco, etc. for a small amp in the 15 watt range, because they have a tonal and aesthetic quality.
For bigger rooms or louder bands, the bigger amps will end up having a bottom that it would not be easy to emulate with a single speaker.
Several of the boutique amps offered would be a wise investment if you like playing loud.
No need for a PA interface, no need to mic amp.
It is all good.
Thanks!
Brian
