Re: [Harp-L] Mississippi Heat - Macat

OK;
       I gave that a listen.
I'll add the disclaimer that it was just bits and pieces off the two recommended websites.
I wouldn't call this band 'harp driven'; it's just that the harp gets a front row seat, occupying a position similar to a horn soloist rather than a horn in a section, which, if this band is 'driven' by anything, it is driven by this, and the keys, bass, guitar etc.
But the harp seems to be the 'principal soloist'.
The singers are excellent, the songs good, and Pierre deserves his privileged position as 'first horn'.
Thanks for the heads up on this one.

Saw Mississippi Heat with the legendary harpist Pierre Lacocque (La Coke)
at The Ark in Ann Arbor, Michigan last with Peter Madcat Ruth (I think he still
lives in Ann Arbor) joining him on stage for several songs along with mic
manufacturer Johnny Ace.

For those who have not seen Pierre, plays a variety of cross harp that offers
an original approach, avoiding the Chicago blues harp cliches while staying
within the genre. The Chicago based band has been around since 1992.

The other thing about Pierre is that while Mississippi Heat is a harp-driven
band, Pierre sings no vocals, being content to play harp and leaving the vocal
duties to his guitar player and the vocalist Inetta Visor (?).

He and Madcat and Johnny traded some tasty licks. Check out Miss. Heat on the
web or in person. Pierre is an exciting player.

The band has released at least eight CDs and one DVD. Current label is
Delmark. Check out its new CD at:
