Re: [Harp-L] Custom Harmonicas: Rick Epping's Role

To clarify that last post, what I meant was I believe Mr. Power has made some significant contributions to the harp world, regardless of who came up with what first, though as far as I know, the Paddy is his.  That's what I meant, his contributions extend beyond the paddy itself. He has people thinking. That's a significant contribution.

Lee Oskar plays a huge role in all this, the introduction of the idea that you can swap reedplates easy, that you can take X plate and Y plate and make a harp with Z note placement. It was all a marvelous idea.
With Mr. Power, his role as I've seen it, has been in putting all this stuff forward, especially the Paddy. maybe Mr. Power probably wasn't the first to come up with it, I don't know. I came up with it on my own later, but it was to make an A minor harp from a C harp, and I didn't realize at the time I was making a paddy. I look up to Mr. Power for a lot of things.
To say Lee Oskar perhaps introduced these things is fine. What I am saying is credit must also be given to people who have perpetuated and popularized ideas and refined them. Just because I did not mention Lee Oskar, should not be a slight to Lee Oskar. Credit ought to be due to Steve Baker as well.
WHile I've never been a fan of the Lee Oskar harps, I embrace the fact that LO set the stage for a lot of what is happening today.

I can not possibly mention all the people who have contributed in any single post, which is precisely the point. The development of anything is never as clear cut as it appears, it's a usually a play with a cast of thousands.
