[Harp-L] Harp Full of Soul

Ken Diefik, my LA harp playing friend, wrote that he was upset that
the documentary people can afford to promote the show but not play the
harp players. Are you talking about paying the players in the film
for their film work or the players he is requesting coming to Houston
to play the opening night party?

If the former, I am not aware of any documentary that pays its
subjects. If the latter, I just sent Todd an email offering to play
the Houston show in return for gas money and possibly some payment for
the performance and he emailed me back, saying he wwould be happy to
have me and other Austin players and we would work out the details
later. At this point he has not said whether or not he would pay us.

I met Todd and crew many times throughout the years of their footage
gatherings. They seem like very nice guys to me, who are dealing with
the enormous task of creating a documentary film, which costs a lot of
money to make. I would venture to guess that every guy involved in
making the movie has lost tons of money and never will see a return.

What we might see if this documentary is well made and gets
distribution and treats the players and the instrument with respect,
is a new interest in harmonica. If I get one gig or one student takes
one lesson due to this movie, I am grateful to the filmakers.
