[Harp-L] Sonny Jr amp review

I played two  very big gigs last week here in Luxembourg. One night the
hall was big so I  brought out my SJ 410 and the second night the venue was
smaller and so  naturally I brought out "The Cruncher". I find it very
realistic to say....  if you play harp and you want to be heard in the
venue and on stage and you  have some idea of projection, tone, and sound
quality then you need to own  both of these amps. By now you should know
what these two amps sound like and  know what you'd like to sound like.
When I bought the SJ 410 "The Cruncher"  was not in existence. I asked
about a sound exactly like and what "The  Cruncher" can do now. And, I
imagine others asked for the same and presto a  few years later out comes
"The Cruncher". I believed that the SJ 410 could  never have a rival, I
still believe it's true. The Cruncher and the 410 are  only comparable in
look and volume but the tone, quality, and versatility are  different. The
SJ 410 purrs and "The Cruncher" growls! You can drop the tubes  to their
lowest specs to get the SJ 410 to overdrive, but "The Cruncher"  comes
equipped to growl which can be enhanced by tube swapping, but all that  is
really necessary is to be able to dial "The Cruncher" in to get  that
sweet,but nasty growl. I have found if you get them both off the floor  and
tilted up at you and your audience the quality of on stage and  projected
sound are better, especially with "The Cruncher". The SJ 410  sitting on
the floor is still going to knock your socks off. I have only had  these
amps at their maximums for experimentation, but never in a gig. The  one
time that I really let the SJ 410 rip was outdoors in Remich,  Luxembourg
in an outdoor band shell and the bass player still  tells  stories that he
was behind the amp and the sound coming out of the back of  the amp was
deafening and it was only on 8 with presence,additional reverb,  and bass
on 10.
I could go on forever telling you the  history of these amps and how I
have used them. The SJ 410 is the amp that  you can do the most with if you
understand tubes, mics, and tone. "The  Cruncher" is the overdrive tone
monster for smaller venues or when sound men  know what to do in big
venues. Now, you can mic and go line out on both. Ask  me specific stuff I
will try to answer. I have played harp for just over 48  years. I have been
chasing tone most of that time. I would be totally blown  away if there
existed another amp and sound that equalled or surpassed these  Sonny Jr.
amps. I always want to help folks because I know how hard I  suffered to
get where I'm going and the amount of money I spent getting  there.
