Re: [Harp-L] YouTube - AFTER YOU'VE GONE-- shtreiml

Excellent point....you only use them as a tool...unfortunately I've had to use them on a gig and I must say it is quite a CHALLENGE....there is nothing like playing off the vibratiions and sonics of the other band mates...

On my myspace link below if you scroll down, there is a clip of me playing the theme from 'Black Orpheus' A Day in the life of a Fool.......

I did this for the Garden State Harnonica Fest last Year and couldn't afford to bring my group....so I played to a Hal Leonard Jam track....you can see me playing with one hand and waving to the sound man with the other to try and get more track in my mix!,-)

My point being you can still groove BUT it's it takes a lot of practice to interact with musicians that are 'canned',-)...I really had to listen MORE than think about what I was gonna play....

BTW, I've met Jason Rosenblatt at my house here for a Harmonica masterclass with Hendrik, Bonfiglio and Levy....I have nothing but admiration for what he has accomplished on playing a Diatonic Chromatically. We all were just commenting on an 'out of context' youtube that was brought to our attention and gave our honest opinions....no harm done.

I hope to catch his band LIVE next time they are in the NY area!

NOTHING beats a live band!
Best,
Rob Paparozzi

Good point. Backing tracks are used to practice scales/arpeggios a la Jamey
Abersold. Backing tracks are used for karaoke styles. Backing tracks don't
bend to the moment.

It makes
me wonder, again, whether playing along to backing tracks brings out
anyone's best? It eliminates the communicative interplay between
musicians and backing tracks cannot cover for, enhance or just play
with the lead player's contribution.
