I have to come down on the side of this one.
I listened to this on headphones, and he is following the chord progression
and playing unbelievable lines to boot. 
I was trying to ascertain which position, which harp but I never figured
that one out.
He appears to be playing in g, but the complexity of that one has me
wondering if I have the key right. 
And, if I couldn't have heard the guitar, I'd've had to go with the
"noodling/doodling" contingent.
Real interesting stuff!
