[Harp-L] Amp Replacement.............Reposted due to transcrption error by software

I am reposting due to an error in transmission- a font change that took "HI-Z" and other letters in original post and converted into a "A" that is not even on my keyboard, but must have got picked up when I clipped and pasted Franks original post.
Perhaps, clipping and pasting text with letters from non-english keyboard font?
Not my intent.

Also, in kudos, Dennis Oellig sold me my first custom mic that set the level for pro mic work and turned me on to my first Valco amp, an Oahu Supreme.
I will always remember my first time.

Thanks

Brian B.

Hi Frank,

I like to try different set-ups, so here goes:
If you are bored with or don't find gear interesting, please do not read further.
Just kidding. Read on.

1). Hi-Z mic into Lone Wolf Harp Delay into PA. Nice, a little gain and crunch with delay. A minimalist approach.
2).Hi-Z  into Holmes Harp Commander III into PA. This is a great tool from a great guy who will discuss any issues. For price, it is worth it. I have used pedals with it through it's built in effects loop. It is rugged and compact, has features like use as head phone amp, DI box, some adjustments for distortion, gain, line out to amp, and more.
For traveling, this would is great primary and to have as a back-up.
Again, if you don't like gear, stop here!
3.)Hi-Z mic into MASCO tube head into PA. Wow, vintage tubes head with line-out to PA.
I just got a little 8 watter today that I am itching to try soon. Of course, tubes stuff is bulkier and more fragile, so, I have to be in the mood, but the sound...
4).Hi -Z mic  into small amp with line out (Terry Dobbs, Mr. Valco modded two Valco Supremes with a line out that reduces voltage at a tap-out on speaker rim and goes to PA). WOW!
I have had to use a DI box into PA if I had hum. This scheme and the HHC III allow the use of an amp as a monitor so the harp can be lower in the stage monitors, as well.
5.) Hi-Z mic into ART tube pre-amp (swap out cheap 12 AX 7 for a 12 AY or AU 7 carefully) and into PA. A nice compact, fairly rugged, tubular solution (if nothing else, you can know you are loyal to tubes, and who isn't?). This is practical and inexpensive.
6.) head 'em off at the pass...
Of course, with good skills, a memorable performance  can be had by all, by simply playing through the stage mic.  The real tube is in the head.

A good DI box and good cables are essential to have (for guerrilla players).

I like custom mics with Shure CR, CM, take the crystals out for a date occasionally, and of course, the infamous Thunderharp A-1 element.
I am not affiliated with any of the above, except, Steve Warner sends me big checks every month. Not!
And this is not a plug for Paul Burke, a founding High Desert Harp Guild member who plays well and builds beautiful pro paint job mics.
He is on ebay as top-dog-paint when

THIS LIST ROCKS!!!

Thanks for glistening,
Brian

Oh, and a link to gear head playing.
