Thank you Tim. I also got a few offlist answers, and one these
suggested using an ART tube preamp. With your post and the other one
in mind i tested overdriving my Art Tube MP Studio V3 and the results
were surprisingly good! I didn't expect that, i've used it only for
clean and natural sounds so far.
Went into it with a Hi-Z CR mic into the instrument in, XLR out into
the mixer. Input gain at 1 o'clock with +20dB button pushed, output
level pretty low at 7 o'clock to prevent the mixer from clipping.
The "valve" voicing provided the best resuts, "bass" on the left side
was nice too.
On the mixer i set hights way down, mids and bass way up.
Still it's not like a decent tube amp, but i want it basically for
practicing at low volume at home, and it's ok for that.
For stage use i'll stick with tube amps, i agree with those of you who
suggested that this gives the best overall results.
I also was suggested trying the Digitech RP250, and i'll do so next
time i get the chance testing it.
Thank to all who provided answers.
