[Harp-L] Audacity for Idiots

Hi Folks
I remember reading that a few people here use Audacity.   I have been trying
to use it to make recordings of myself playing over backing tracks imported
as mp3s but i can't work out how to do it and the help menu has only made me
even more confused.

I can get as far as importing the mp3 file and then creating another audio
track but then according to the instructions i read, I should be able to
click on a drop down menu next to the microphone volume to select the sound
source.  I can't get the drop down menu to work.  Prseumably i've not
completed a basic step - can anyone help?
