Re: [Harp-L] any good solo pieces
Joe,
Depends on what style of music. For rock, I think the killer solo is Whammer Jammer by J. Geils (Magic Dick on harp). The Full House Live CD has the most fast, rocking version, the studio album has the version that is a little slower.
For pop/jam type music there are many solos by John Popper of Blues Traveler, such as the ones in Run Around. Also the song Run Away by Bonnie Rait, where Norton Buffalo does a much discussed killer solo involving many harps.
For country, I like "Can I Sleep In Your Arms Tonight" by Willie Nelson (solo by Mickey Raphael at the end). But then there's anything by Charlie McCoy, he's the man!
For blues, the traditional one a lot of folks learn is Juke by Little Walter, along with a whole lot of other possibilities!
Keep in mind these are advanced solos! The easiest one (very pretty though) is the Mickey Raphael one. There are tabs and sheet music on the Internet for them, if you search.
Good Luck and g'day!
Bill
