Hello ,,I saw a post earlier this week and wanted to add my recent
experience with Chuck Gurney...After getting some referrals from amp
builders and harp instructors..All have been mentioned here many times
by the way.. I started talking with several of the mic builders and what
immediately struck me about Chuck was a complete lack of ego and a
profound sense of caring about ME and MY needs as a Blues harp player.. I
mean he talked me thru every detail from not only what I could afford
but what amp I use, the tube configuration ,my preference of music down
to the size of my hands. We settled on a EV605.I was looking at these for
awhile anyway but wasn't sure. Now here's the kicker and yet another
example as to why the Blues are what they are...I was all set to send him
my money order when my house took an indirect lightning strike. My
PA is hooked up to my TV...(OVER KILL TO BE SURE LOL ) my mains were
fried of course & I needed these...He understood! I got those
repaired>$450.00< Then when I go to get the money to him again ,I have to
go into the hosp. to get a stint in my heart...Ok , decent excuse but a
true one. So here he is still believing in me and even emailing me to see
how I am...how's that for caring? Everything is great by the way... I
finally get my EV605 built with a black label CR element,,folks this mic
is off the damn scale with that fat bottom end sound I was craving..I had
a gig this past weekend and my guitar player was floored at the
difference..It friggin HONKS....I wanted to play all night...ABSOLUTELY
no feed back no matter how close I was to my Bassman or what angle. So
from the choice of shells to my style of playing to the choice of amps,,
he explained every thing in detail so I could understand and make the
correct choice for "ME".He went to 10th degree as far as service. He is a
throw back to the days when pride in ones work meant something. I will
ONLY deal with Chuck when it comes to my next custom mic. I am also
grateful to count him as a new friend even though we have never met. I
trust him 100% to do just what he says he's going to do.Build you or me a
pro style harp with the best possible components and built to last.
I just can't get enough of this mic...I also believe the custom shielded
cords he makes have a great deal to do with the lack of feedback.I also
love the fact that he makes them 20' long. It was perfect.I urge anyone
looking for a quality sound in a mic built to last check out his website
Fatbottom-mics.com and of course Chuck Gurney himself. You won't be
disappointed.bluesfully yours,
BullDog Johnny
