Re: [Harp-L] Harmonic Minor Modes?
If we define a scale as N different notes/degrees arranged within an octave
of the 12 note chromatic scale, they can be graphically placed on the face
of a clock. Then by starting at N different places and going in sequence
around the clock face, you have N modes. In the case of the seven-note
harmonic scale, you can have 7 modes.
Thus I would argue that any scale has as many modes as there are degrees in
the scale..five in the pentatonic, seven, etc.
Whether or not they are traditional or music based on any of them is
pleasing to the ear is, I suppose, a different subject.
