Subject Re[Harp-L]: Runaway- Bonnie Raitt
That was so nice, Michael..I was just beginning to look for Norton's name to
try to find the thread for Venky...
didn't remember there being 'quite' that many harps used by Norton in his
version...wow. very cool..
..just wanted to remind Venky that Bonnie's cover of Runaway was of the old
(and original) Del Shannon hit of 1961 (it's one of the first songs I heard
after coming to America and I was hooked on 'American Rock Music' from then
on).
...here's Del in 1982 talking about how they originally got 'that'
sound....(although he changes it up, some...in the performance...I imagine after 21
years he might have been getting a little tired of playing it the same 'old'
way)

and, here's how the original record sounded:

Bonnie, of course..changed it into a slower, bluesy song...backed up by the
inimitable NB...whose harmonica solo has been talked about ever since.
...here's also a page from Pat Missin..talking about playing with multiple
harps (and how to make it just a tad less complicated)...
