[Harp-L] re: friggin' afb+
interesting that the harpking built-in afb has a different (and, apparent lack of) quality than the pedal... i was seriously considering the 6-10 100 watt, and spoke to mr. kinder about it, but i like playing thru the '71 super reverb for sentimental reasons and would kind of feel bad if i didn't...sort of 'carrying on' for a former bandmate...
then, out of the blue, the pedal becomes available so i could plug into any amp (and i liked the idea of not having to lug an amp around downtown austin jams). what the heck, for $300 i'm gonna try it, especially based on the recommendations on this site. man, am i glad i got this pedal! i feel so powerful on stage! ain't no guitar gonna drown me out! and the tone it imparts is like something from another dimension and time. before, the super reverb had a 1970 musselwhite tone to it, which i liked a lot, since he's my #2 favorite player, 2nd only to butterfield...
anyway, this new tone is like nothing i have ever heard before. it's like when you take different color crayons and melt 'em and smush 'em together. this pedal takes the tones from butterfield, musselwhite, little walter, kim wilson, and a couple more, and smushes them together into an absolute tone monster from harmonica heaven! very deep, very dark, very compressed, very loud, and mind-blowing. just can't believe i'm getting that kind of sound, and i've run it thru different amps. i've charted the results below:
'71 super reverb...kicked ass completely.
vibro king...........kicked ass entirely.
late 60's sup rev...kicked asses and caved heads in.
wish i had this thing when i was recording for soon to be released cd's... drat!
