and one more from 1981 showing the strong connection to this music and the
Scottish Highlands' jigs and reels I grew up on:

I'm sure Winslow can elaborate in regard to his Scottish Fiddler's Group
playing, but I can't imagine a harmonica player being able to keep up at these
speeds, unless it was someone as fast a player as is Jason.

Breathtaking.

Dave Payne writes (snipped):
"I'm always hungry for information about foreign bluegrass... Stuff like: I
wonder if the moonshine at their bluegrass festivals is as good as the stuff
that always shows up at ours, etc., or if they have a dog that can sing "In
the Pines" like Ronnie Webb always has at the festivals. The dog can sing any
bluegrass song there is, as long as it's "In The Pines."

Dave"

....and

(major snip)

"The mandolin is a highly personal thing. Duncan tells this one story where
he was at the Grand Ol' Opry with Monroe. Monroe broke an A string on his
mandolin. Duncan decided to be helpful and change the string. Monroe comes back,
sits down. He deliberately and carefully takes an A string out of the
package and unfurls it. He carefully places the spare string across his lap and
ceremoniously picks up the 1923 Lloyd Loar F-5 Gibson he played throughout his
long career.
Monroe took off the tailpiece and did a double take, then stared in horror.
Anger filled him.
"Who the god...n hell's been messing with my mandolin!" Monroe screamed.
"I did." Duncan said.
"You leave my god..n mandolin alone."
Those who are learned of Monroe, will no doubt realize that for Monroe to
actually swear, he was infuriated."
