Simple,  do it the West Virginia way, get a reed, cut piece out of it and J.B. weld it on the top of the slot I'd put the reed in the slot first,  then mark the top of the reed, swing the reed off to the side... metal expoxy the reed to the top of the slot, let it set, swing the reed back up. Bam! short slot. 


That sounds like a cool tuning. It sounds as crazy as something I'd do, but I bet you SmoJoe has done it.

I came up with a fairly radical but potentially great altered tuning. The problem is that the first hole would require too great a retune to be feasible. I planned to simply replace the reed but taking a reed from a short slot plate to put in a long slot plate doesn't work either. Any suggestions on how to fill in the slot a little to make it shorter?
