Is this only since you updated or did you just try the first time?

Did you put the H4 to USB Audio I/O mode? (Menu button, select USB, 
then Audio I/O, then Connect)

I tried  the first time right now and it worked out of the box with 
audacity on linux after selecting the H4 as input device in 
audacity's preferences.
