I have CoolEdit and use it for lots of editing--I just used it to
clean up the live recordings I made with the Zoom H4 of the Howard
Levy seminar in NYC on March 22. It is really a very nice piece of
software. But I though CoolEdit has been out of production for
years, since Adobe bought Syntrillium Software (the people who made CoolEdit).
Computer Music magazine offers a software DVD with every issue, and
I believe that CD now includes Magix Samplitude 9, which is one
generation back from the current version of the program, and a VERY
capable audio editor. If you've tried Audacity and don't think it
will do the job, that might be a useful low-cost (less than US$20) option.
I use Cakewalk Sonar software for almost all my recording
projects. Cakewalk Home Studio is based on the same technology,
gives you something like 48 audio and MIDI tracks plus a pile of
signal procesing plugins like reverb, compression, etc., and is
upward compatible with Sonar, at a price under $100.
Finally, doesn't the Zoom H4 ship with a copy of Cubase LE? That's
a pretty capable little program.
