New security rules make travel to Canada and back somewhat tricky these days.
You don't need a passport until June 1, 2009 to get back into the U.S. but it 
is a good idea to have one.

Passports & Visas - Canada.travel web site further says: 

"Until this date arrives, U.S. citizens 19 years and older who enter the U.S. 
at land and sea ports of entry from within the Western Hemisphere will need 
to present government-issued photo ID, such as a driverâs license as proof of 
identity, along with proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate or 
naturalization certificate, or a passport. Children age 18 and under will be able 
to enter with proof of citizenship. Verbal claims of citizenship and identity 
alone will not be sufficient to establish identity and citizenship for entry 
into the United States."

Best bet is to take a passport. That will work NOW and LATER. That way blues 
fans enjoy the harp fest without any future problems at the border coming 
back. I live near Windsor and am aware of this border change. It used to be you 
could take the bridge or tunnel for dinner to Windsor with virtually no wait at 
the border and nothing but verbal checks: "Where were you born? What did you 
buy?" and unless your broke out into a sweat or had shifty eyes, you were home 
free.
