The first time I saw Sugar Blue was in 1982. I've
been a fan of his harp playing for about 25 years. I
saw him weekly for about two and a half years at the
Kingston Mines. I've always enjoyed his playing and
he had a super tight band. Blue is a true showman.
I never understood why people looked on Blue's playing
with such disdain. Additionally, he was pretty
supportive of players that were starting out. I hear
a lot of his playing in the current crop of players,
but very few seem to cite him as an influence.
