What sad news this is, not only for the harp world but for the world.
Gary was a brilliant player but more importantly a friendly, outgoing
and VERY funny guy who could keep you in stitches for hours. Last
time I saw him (we spent several days teaching together at Kerrville
a few months back,) he was seemingly in good health and taking care
of himself -- we spent three hours in a bar swapping road stories,
and he drank only 7-up. He seemed upbeat about life and was excited
about his new CD.
49. <sigh> But then, it ain't the years in one's life -- it's the
life in one's years. Gary lived life to the hilt, and the world is a
far better place for his having been amongst us.
See ya down the road, brother -- save me a place in the band.
