Wedding gig (and, no, you can't come)

"What is this stuff?", referencing "Private Event".
A few have asked similar on various occasions, but I thought it should
be quite clear.
Many artists include "private party," "private event" or simply
"private" in their listings as a way of letting everyone know (players,
agents, venues, etc) that they are in fact busy on a given date. If
filled dates are not shown, it could be construed that they are in fact
available, especially in a given area.
A date filled with a "private" notice can save others from needless
contact for that date, but on the other hand, can also indicate that an
artist may be in a given locale on a "blank" date, and may indeed be
available.
Hope this makes sense to all.
Danny
