[Harp-L] Fathead Music
Hi All,
I'll be seated back at the workbench next week but on a limited
basis. After taking the summer off to work on my house I realized
how much
I was missing by being an "average Joe" for a few months. I've worked
no less then 2 or 3 jobs at a time for the past 28 years. It felt
good not to worry about deadlines for several months and to be able
to work at my own leisure.
Like all harp techs, we are working musicians as well. Sometimes we
need to take time to re-educate ourselves to new musical ideas or
free up time for more gigging opportunities, or just taking care of
family needs. In the end this means less time spent at the bench. The
blues band I'm in has been headed in the direction of writing and
performing more songs in the pre-war rhythm vein (1900-1930's). For
me, that means learning how to be a rhythm player using old school
techniques. Trying to find your place in a duo or trio setting is
easy. Doing it in a 6 piece band can be more difficult. Hence, the
time needed to
re-educate and find my "new" place in the band.
I will honor some of the repair and custom work of those that
contacted me over the summer. As far as major restorations, you may
have to seek other harp techs for the time being. If you want to do
the work yourself I can sell you the Hohner parts you need if I have
them in stock. I'm considering revamping the website
in late 2007 or early 2008 to advertise the NOS vintage parts and
reeds I have for sale showing a price and photo for each part. It
will take some time as I have lots of parts.
Thanks to all those that gave me the opportunity to work on their
harps over the years. Hopefully, the work slow down won't be permanent.
It would also be nice to have the time to attend a Buckeye or SPAH
convention in the future.
