Subject: [Harp-L] 2 newbie questions

Michael's suggestions are good ones. However, they assume that the "newbie's" choices should be limited to various types of diatonic harp. The "newbie" should also consider the chromatic harmonica alternative.

......... If you are looking for a way to get a full chromatic scale without having strong bending/overblowing technique or a button on a chromatic.............

The Hands-Free-Chromatic (HFC) provides a full 3-octave chromatic scale without a button and without the need for ANY bending/overblowing at all. Bending is possible if desired for musical effect.

........ and still get a tonality similiar to a normal diatonic harp...............

Because the HFC has no leaky slide, it has a robust tone "similar to a diatonic harp." The tone of the HFC is arguably much better than your average bent note on a diatonic.

........and it will easily fit a rack........

The sturdy and super-adjustable Ergonomic-Neck-Rack will easily hold an HFC, an XB40, or two diatonics.

A Richter-tuned C diatonic provides the frequently-useful draw G chord. The same draw on a C chromatic produces a Dm chord which is useful much less often. However, with a guitar in your hands, the very limited chording capability of any harmonica, chromatic or diatonic, is unimportant.
