Re: [Harp-L] Re: Get a career!
My band has attracted a couple of fans who also happen to be real fan dancers in the burlesque tradition - very nice looking youg ladies - not too trashy, but highly skilled in the art of implied sleeze. They said they had choreographed some interesting routines to songs off our CD and showed up at a gig asking if they could be on stage with us....
We were somewhat nervous, but what the hey, we said - after all they are really great looking. It was going to go over one of two ways - really big or really bad. The ladies danced right in front of the stage. It went over big as pretty ladies dancing provocatively usually do, but I remember thinking to myself as I readied for a big solo during one of our more popular songs - nobody's really listening to us or what I'm about to play - they're all focused on the fan dancers. Hmmm.... moral of the story - don't encourage competition during shows - you might not end up on top.
As for how it affected our pay.... I looked over at the fan dancers as the next band was playing after our set, and there sat my 24 year old son (also in our band) with one arm around each of the fan dancers with a huge grin on his face. Priceless!
