/To my friends & associates who knew or knew of GARY PRIMICH:/
//
/ Hey y'all... John "Juke" Logan here... hope you are well & good.../
//
/ Possibly everyone receiving this is by now aware of the passing of
my good friend & musical partner, intergalactic blues & jazz dynamo GARY
PRIMICH (if you are not, I am sorry to be the one to bring the news to
you), on September 23. Those in Gary's tight musical familia are already
aware of the up-coming memorial & the details thereof; for those who are
not, I've included the info. below. Folks are coming from all corners of
the globe to celebtrate Gary's life & body-of-work, & interpret that
work into a gigantic musical tribute (he'll no doubt be smilin' - &
playing along - from where he is in the "next experience")... /

_GARY PRIMICH MEMORIAL & LIFE-CELEBRATION_: Sunday, October 28,
2007, 8pm
SAENGERRUNDE HALL ("an 1866
German-immigrant-confederate-built public hall & bar")
1607 San Jacinto Blvd., Austin, TX 78701
GARY'S FAVORITE CHARITIES (along with all the news that fits on
his great career) are listed on _www.

//
/ Also, below, I've included my contribution to Gary's obituary in
the up-coming Blues Revue magazine, just because... /
//
/ Love & savor every minute... love & savor every note you play or
sing... Primich is listening.../
/ Blessings - Juke/

//
/ In losing GARY PRIMICH, the music world has lost a unique & amazing
harp-player & blues artist, but has also lost a unique & amazing human
being. And generous... as a band-leader he gave everybody tons of room,
&, in a long-standing blues/jazz tradition, made his bands proving
grounds & "schools" for the younger kats. He also ran his bands with a
military precision that later earned him the nickname "Sarge"./
//
/ We met in the late 80's - he'd heard my song "Let's Buzz",
started playing it & covering other tunes of mine, & got in touch with
me. Within 2 weeks, he coaxed me to Texas, took me into his band (at the
time the Mannish Boys) as a special guest, & he & Tina took me into
their home (full of an unbelieveable array of the coolest dogs & cats on
the planet)!! That's how Gary did things... he had an uncanny set of
instincts, musically & otherwise. That Texas/Louisiana tour marked the
beginning of a 20 year musical partnership & wonderful friendship,
during which we played thousands of shows, wrote, produced & recorded
together (he co-produced my "The TRUTH will ROCK YOU" album, cut in
Austin), & we were just tight runnin' buddys - one of the best I've ever
had.../
//
/ What set Gary apart from the other harp-players, for me, was his
soul-jazz sensabilities. His playful phrasing reminded me of the alto
playing of Cannonball Adderley. I used to refer to him as the
"Cannonball of the Harp". Both of us being 60's soul-jazz freaks
(worshipping at the 'Temples' of Blue Note, Impulse & Prestige), our
double-harp shows took the form of bobbin' & weavin' harps with
one-another, less head-cuttin' contests & more like the teamwork of a
Blue Note record-like sax section. MORE FUN has never been had by 2 harp
players in one band.../
//
/ Gary will be missed, but then again he'll be everywhere. A musical
spirit like that sticks around, in so many ways, not the least of which
is his recorded legacy, his musicology, his adventurous originality &
his wide influence. I hope he's trading fours with Big Walter Horton
right now.../
//
/ PLAY ON, BROTHER GARY PRIMICH!!!!! SIR, YES, SIR!!!!! I love
ya' - John "JUKE" Logan/
