It's really all about the drummer and guitarist, not the wattage of the amps.
5 or 8 watts is plenty for harp or guitar for a small gig.
If you want a really clean tone, it may not be enough for guitar.
Pro-mark hot rods (small gauge) or Blastics work way better for most drummers, especially loud or rock drummers. Keeping good time becomes an issue for many of us when playing a lower volume (similar to playing with earplugs the first few times).
If the drummer and guitarist aren't up for it, then you're basically out of luck.
You get a huge benefit if you practice and play at low volume. Your time and listening will get a lot better as a group.
