An exercise I have used for many years is built around the major scale 
plus one note, and builds upon the exercises suggested by Winslow and 
others. I learnt this exercise from my recorder teacher Hans Dieter 
Michatz (I play baroque recorder as well as harmonica), so I call it the 
"Hans Scale".
