While some of my most satisfying playing has been while sad, e.g., upon a friend's death or feeling real lonesome, etc., I think some of my best playing has been when I'm happy.
I guess it's similar to what's been said about getting one's conscious mind out of the way and playing from the heart, whatever works for you. For me happy works better, although sad is close, but for angry I do things other than play music.
Vive la difference!
I heard Andy Griffith (great actor and a real good musician) on NPR today quote Elia Kazan (great director and a cowardly fascist collaborator) as saying something to the effect of: If while acting you think and feel "real hard" the way you're supposed to think and feel, the camera will see it in your eyes and your point will come across to the audience.

There has been quite a bit posted on the creativity discussion and perhaps I
just missed it but...It seems that there are two sides to the force. Love
and caring, and hate and anger ("Luke, come to the dark side."). The
harmonica is an ideal instrument for expressing emotion. Anger has been
mentioned as an emotional catalyst, anyone use the other side of the force?
Peace and music,
Dave
