[Harp-L] Question for the tuners out there

Hey there gang,

A question for you - if anyone knows the answer, I'd really appreciate
a reply, as this is one of my main gigging harps, in an unusual enough
tuning, and I need it for a gig soon.

I replaced a reed on Suzuki plates (chrom) recently . I took off the
welded reed and stuck in a slightly larger Hohner reed - filed down
and cut the tip to make it fit. After that, I tuned it down to pitch.
All well so far, except that when I hit the reed with a hard attack,
the pitch goes up dramatically very briefly, and then normalises,
presumably as my breath evens out.

Any idea what's going on here? I originally thought it was the shape
of the reed, as I had added solder to near the tip of the reed. So, I
took off the solder and filed the reed at the base to bring up the
pitch. Same thing. I have been playing with the width of the reed by
filing it that way too.

I can chuck away the reed and start with a new one, but I may have the
same issue.

Thanks in advance for your help,
Eugene
