Re: [Harp-L] Re: Art Tube MP

The ART stuff is definitely an affordable entry into tube preamps. The fact that these preamps are so inexpensive can actually benefit recording harmonicas since there is a whole lot of tube distortion added to the input signal and a lo-fi kind of sound (compared to higher end tube preamps). Also the ART tube MP does not have a particularly extended high-freq. range which helps tame potential harp shrillness. Plus this preamp is very simple to use since it basically only has input and output controls. A high input level setting with a low output level setting equals a lot of tube distortion, while a low input setting with high output setting equals less amounts of distortion. As with any preamp, the mic used will result in considerably different sonic results so try out the mics you have. As always, your mileage will vary.
