[Harp-L] you 'seasoned' travelers

Joe,

First, I hope that's a gig list, all those towns, it's sure a lot of places to go as a tourist in such a short time!

Second, I wouldn't take ANY travelers checks, since purchasing with credit card and getting cash with ATM cards gets the best exch. rate, and since ATM are now everywhere, whereas travelers checks are not accepted everywhere, and if yours are in dollars you get into a constant exchange-rate confusion.

Note most ATM keypads in Europe don't have the alpha-numeric (2 is abc, etc) printed on the keys, so remember your PIN numerically.

And take at least two atm cards (but if you don't have two such accounts you should have other credit cards set up with pin's for atm cash withdrawals) for backup use in case one gets eaten, demagnetized or overtapped for the 24-hour cycle (which is based on your home time zone.)

Also, tell your bank to increase your daily limit, tell your credit card company and bank you will be travelling so they don't freak out and cancel your card when they start seeing far flung charges and withdrawals and can't reach you at home.

I'd suggest always having a hundred or so euros on you, in case. Certainly don't assume US cash will get you anywhere.

And Joe, I bet you well know, a smile'll take you a mile when you're far from home, and to learn the basic courtesies in Turkish, German, etc., and

HARP CONTENT: Take extra harps since they're MORE EXPENSIVE AND HARDER TO FIND IN EUROPE!!

Bon Voyage,

-Dave Fertig
