Blessedly, here in New York City the scene is thriving. Good pop bands,
acoustic and roots bands, and any band with quality material has no problem
getting gigs. On the other hand, generic electric blues bands are having a
tough time finding work for all the reasons offered by others; high rents,
loud volume, and I mean no disrespect to those who love it and play it, but
its kind of been done. Do we really need another band that is derivative of
a derivative (for example a band that sounds like Bill Clarke sounding like
George Smith). It's the same with Bluegrass music, after Bill Monroe wrote
and closed the book, what's left to say?
Now not many of us are sending our kids to college on a harp players salary
(except for Rob P!) but the band I work with most often has to turn down
gigs so that our significant others don't toss us out of the house.
Roscoe, your band would do fantastic in Brooklyn!!!
