In this version, the drone is 4 hole inhale sustained with single note, switch to left TB, allowing 6 hole inhale to sound (right TB) and widening the tongue, letting 6 move to 7 inhale and then 8 inhale.
 
Same basic technique is used on Howard's Beethoven piece, covered by Carlos del Junco on Big Boy.
 
With a little practice, the technique is not too difficult. I had to learn it to teach it to RJ, who now plays both of these pieces at a level approaching Howard's.
