as far as waiting for gear versus not, it depends on her personality. if she can bend some and is "chomping at the bit" to make those cool sounds and have some fun and play along with some tunes or maybe at the jam, I say go for it. depends on her personality whether she will be frustrated or thrilled. that's why i recommended what i did, not  to big of an investment, not too complicated like the amps with lots of knobs or digital processors, and not too expensive.
