i agree completely.  which is why i agree with ken that gear is too often a
distraction for beginners.  certainly was for me.  you gotta learn to play harp
before you learn how to play amplified harp.  it's an additional set of skills to
cultivate.  

it's ironic.  after a long time, i've finally got my gear all squared away,
fireball > wireless > digitech > keyboard amp.  i've fiddled enough with
the digitech to get a small but nice set of patches together.  but when
i play at home, i mostly play with all of 'em turned off.  having only recently
figured out how to amplified harp, as opposed to amplifying my harp
playing, i want to focus on getting good amplified tone, and the effects and
models just get in the way of me hearing that.  once i get this figured out i
can explore the gear more.
