In my quest for a reasonably priced portable P.A., I stumbled across this item from the DAK
catalog:
http://www.dak.com/reviews/3010story.cfm
I was extremely skeptical. At $99 and 6 lbs, and just 10" tall, I figured it would sound as cheap
as it was. But I figured I'd take a chance and return it if I didn't like it. Mine just arrived
and I am pleasantly surprised! It's quite loud and clear and does not sound cheap and tinny! It
has built-in echo which if you turn it to just a notch or two past zero, adds a nice reverb
presence without going over-the-top karaoke. It has independent bass, mid and treble controls.
It has three 1/4" inputs: wireless, wired mic, and aux, each with its own independent volume knob.
It even has a 1/4" REC out, which I plan to run into my home stereo to give me the "Home Stereo
P.A." I've been wanting. That way I can use my home stereo speakers to augment the sound.
I really don't think I could ask for much more from a tiny P.A. system. And for just $99?
I don't intend to use for harmonica, but if you don't mind the sound of solid-state electronics,
it might be ok for chromatic harp.
The only CONS I've found so far is that it is a battery hog. It requires EIGHT "D" cells, plus
TWO 9 volt batteries! You can run it with the included AC adapter but you still need the two 9
volts.
